Common questions
How does Sift estimate calories and nutrition?▾
Sift uses heuristic models based on dish names, descriptions, and known food data to estimate calories, protein, carbs, and fat. For chain restaurants with published nutrition data, Sift uses that data when available. All estimates are approximate and should not be treated as exact.
Can I trust the allergen flags?▾
Allergen flags are heuristic guesses based on likely ingredients. They may miss real allergens or flag ingredients that are not present. Sift cannot detect cross-contamination or hidden ingredients. Always confirm allergen information directly with the restaurant, especially if you have a serious allergy.
Why did OCR miss some items on my menu?▾
OCR accuracy depends on image quality, lighting, camera angle, font style, and menu condition. Poor lighting, glare, unusual fonts, or handwritten menus can cause items to be missed or misread. Try taking a clearer photo with even lighting and the menu flat on a surface.
Does Sift store my data or require an account?▾
No. Sift does not require an account. Your dietary preferences, scan history, and saved dishes are stored locally on your device. Menu images may be sent to a server for OCR processing, but no personally identifiable information is attached to those requests.
How do I delete my data?▾
All Sift data is stored on your device. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage in your device settings removes all data. There is no server-side data to delete.
Is Sift free?▾
Pricing information will be available on the App Store listing. Check the App Store for current pricing and any available free features.
A restaurant menu is missing or has wrong information.▾
Restaurant menu databases are updated periodically and may not reflect the latest menu. If you notice an issue, please email us with the restaurant name, location, and what was wrong, and we will work to correct it.
